Hidari Zingaro

この度Hidari Zingaroでは2019年6月14日から7月6日にかけて、
ロサンゼルスに拠点を置くタトゥーアーティスト、ジュン・チャによる個展「RONIN」を開催いたします。
16歳で初めてタトゥーを彫って以来チャは、自らのスタジオを立ち上げて世界的なタトゥーアーティストとしてその名を確立させたのみならず、ドローイングやペインティング、彫刻へと制作の範囲を広げてきました。
日本初となる今回の個展では、複数の分野にまたがるチャの卓越した技量を集結させた、包括的なコレクションをご紹介いたします。

美術と歴史、そして哲学を果てしなく学び続けるチャは、レオナルド・ダ・ヴィンチやミケランジェロといったルネッサンスの偉人からインスピレーションを得て、沸き上がったビジョンを皮膚やキャンバス、また最近では大理石の上で表現しています。今回の個展にあたっては、アプアン・アルプスで地元の匠たちに指導を受けながら伝統のカララ大理石を用いた印象的な彫刻を生み出しタトゥーやキャンバス作品でダイナミックに描いてきた古典的な肖像に命を吹き込みました。
この素材と形式の選択は、彼が持つ測り知れないスキルだけでなく
数百年に遡る伝統と絵画的・美術的形象に深く根ざした、古来の技術を探求しようという彼の狙いも反映しています。
死と、エゴの分離にまつわる思索を反映する各々の美術形式を通じてチャは、孤独と逆境に満ちた「武士道」にオマージュを捧げています。自らの技能を支配する主(あるじ)でありながらそれに支配される僕(しもべ)でもある彼は、
絶えず何かを習得してはそこから脱却するという行為を通じて、創作への衝動を満たし続けます。

From June 14th to July 6th, 2019, Hidari Zingaro is pleased to present RONIN, a solo exhibition by the Los Angeles based tattoo artist Jun Cha. Since inking his first tattoo at the age of sixteen, Cha has not only established his own studio and cemented his name as a world-class tattoo artist, but has also expanded his tattoo practice into drawing, painting, and sculpting. The artist’s first solo exhibition in Japan presents a comprehensive collection of Cha’s mastery across these multiple disciplines.

Along his unending path as student of art, history, and philosophy, Cha has drawn inspiration for his work from the Renaissance greats such as Leonardo Da Vinci and Michelangelo and translated his aesthetic vision across skin, canvas and, most recently, marble. Under the tutelage of local masters in the Apuan Alps, Cha has created for this exhibition a series of striking sculptures using historic Carrara marble, bringing to life the classical figures depicted in his dynamic tattoos and canvas works. Cha’s choice of material and form reflect not only his immense technical skill, but also an exploration of an ancient discipline that is deeply rooted within tradition and imagery dating back hundreds of years. With each art form representing a meditation on death and disassociation of ego, Cha’s artistic practice pays homage to the warrior’s path; one of adversity and solitude. Master of his craft, yet also a servant, Jun Cha continues to fulfill his calling to create through his constant learning and unlearning.
